writers talkWhen I was younger, my sister and I had the babysitting market cornered in our little town. Supply and demand. There were two of us and tons of them; each week we had our pick. I am a bit embarrassed to say that we actually had a rating system.

1)   Pay Rate: Let’s face it, money talks whether you are 13 or 53.

2)   Kids: No brats, enough said. There was one couple with a really obnoxious son and a python. The python got loose on my watch and those parents never saw the inside of another restaurant or movie theatre again!  [Read more…]

My recent fiasco with Jetpack and Jetpack Lite gave me good reason to dive into my system and take a hard look at my plugins, as well as various other aspects of the Clinic.

Vernessa Taylor commented the other day that she was using Clicky Stats, so I decided to check it out. I wish I’d done it months ago! Simple install, easy set-up and a wealth of information – far more than WordPress or Jetpack offered – and I am one very happy camper! [Read more…]

We’ve all seen instances where large corporate entities seem to ignore or dismiss the complaints or suggestions of their users. Naturally, the more justified we feel our position is, the more difficult it is to accept dismissal. And unfortunately, dismissal or meaningless lip service are so commonplace these days, that it’s often the response we most expect.

Such trends create opportunities for those companies that are prepared to put their customers first on their list of priorities. Perhaps the scarcity of top-notch quality service is what makes it stand out  when encountered. [Read more…]

It seems there’s always a queue formed in the wings, ready to pounce on any opportunity to ring a death knell on something!

The latest “death” reported is Google+.

Both Forbes (in August) and Slate (earlier this month) each made their respective declarations that Google+ was dead or dying.

I’m certainly in the camp that says that Google is dragging their feet in rolling out all the nuances of G+. But dead? I think not. They apparently have a plan, and as is the case with much that goes on in the ‘Plex, we don’t know what’s to come or why they’re taking their time. [Read more…]

Isaac C. Singleton Jr., 19-year veteran actor, with substantial parts in various films from Planet of the Apes to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, made a recommendation in 2009 to aspiring young actors:

“Study the craft of acting.”

At first glance, it certainly doesn’t seem like a profound statement. But think about it… so many “actors” these days are more focused upon their image than their abilities. In fact, the same could be said of celebrities in general… many are most concerned with how the public perceives them, whether their desired persona is one of philanthropist, ecological activist or bad boy/girl.
